Job Description | Job Title: Kitchen Assistant (NOC 65201 - 5201) Job Description: We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join the team. The job is hands-on, fast-paced, and focused on helping others in a respectful and welcoming environment. You will perform the following tasks: • Finish serving breakfast. The night shift will have already started serving breakfast. • Prepare and serve lunch and dinner. Follow the menus only and do not make any adjustments. Only breakfast, snacks, and dinner. • Set tables for lunch and dinner. • Clean tables after lunch and dinner. • Clean dishes after each meal using the three-step cleaning method. • Bacon and eggs will be served for breakfast, usually once a week. • Prepare vegetables (peel potatoes, carrots, etc.) as needed according to the daily menu. • If a resident doesn't like what's on the menu, you can offer leftovers or sandwiches as an alternative. • Prepare pudding or jelly as needed to set. • Refill condiment containers (mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper, etc.) • Review the next day's menus and remove any meat needed for thawing from the freezer. • Only retrieve the quantities and portions needed based on the number of residents eating to avoid unnecessary waste. • Record daily any food preparation and inventory items that you may be missing or running low on. • Each week, prepare the weekly grocery order list to be sent to Janet by Monday. • Whenever you receive a shipment of groceries, meat, bread, vegetables, or milk, ensure the products are rotated (new product is placed at the back of the shelf or at the bottom of the freezer, as appropriate). • When you receive the order from Sysco, Orléans, and Pain, be sure to verify the items received against the items invoiced—errors and shortages have been known to occur. Immediately inform the supervisor of any discrepancies. • Food inventory will be monitored based on food consumption, menus, and the number of residents (including staff) eating. • Keep the kitchen, food storage room, refrigerators, and freezers clean and tidy at all times. • On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, thoroughly clean one of the three refrigerators in a sequence, including defrosting the freezer section of the refrigerator as needed. • On the first Tuesday of each month, defrost one freezer and clean it thoroughly. Continue this routine on the following Tuesdays until all three freezers are finished. • The stovetop must be kept clean at all times using mild soap and water to avoid damaging the finish. Wipe up spills immediately. Never use the oven's self-cleaning function. Clean the oven with baking soda and water. • All cabinets and drawers must also be cleaned at all times. Use only mild soap and water to avoid damaging the finish. Empty cabinets and drawers periodically to thoroughly clean them (inside and out). • After each use, clean and disinfect all kitchen counters and cutting boards. • After dinner, clean all dining room tables with water and disinfectant (bleach). • For health and safety reasons, keep the kitchen floor dry and free of debris at all times. • Thoroughly wash the kitchen floor before the end of your shift. • Take your full garbage bags to the outdoor garbage receptacle as needed throughout the day. • Ensure each garbage can is cleaned and has a clean garbage bag at the end of your shift.
