Job Description Landscape and horticultural technicians and specialists survey and assess
landscaping, drawing sketches, assembling models of landscaping plans
landscaping, and construct and maintain gardens, parks, golf courses and other
landscaped environments. They advise clients on horticultural matters,
such as irrigating, raising, cultivating and studying plants, and caring for plants and trees
damaged and sick. They work for designers and landscaping contractors,
in lawn service and tree care companies, golf courses, nurseries and
greenhouses, municipal, provincial and federal parks.
● Tree and shrub specialists and tree maintenance technicians
examine trees and shrubs for problems and diseases; and
carry out various treatments such as pruning, spraying, repairing damaged areas
and injection of treatment solutions.
● Golf course maintenance managers lead teams of workers who
look after the health and appearance of golf courses and landscaping that
surround them; plant and transplant trees; and apply fertilizers, fungicides,
herbicides and pesticides.
● Horticulturalists plan and coordinate the growth and use of plants intended for
landscaping and used as decorations and other uses.
● Landscape designers, technicians and technologists in landscape architecture study and
analyze land; prepare drawings, sketches and write reports; and
perform other functions to help landscape architects design
landscaping.
● Landscape gardeners plant and maintain public and private lawns and gardens.
● Landscape designers design and furnish landscaped environments including
trees, shrubs, lawns, fences, decks and other landscaped structures.
● Lawn care specialists visit customers; assess the condition of lawns and
apply fertilizers, pesticides and other lawn care products.
