Job Description Retail Store Department Head – NOC 62010
1. Position Summary
The Department Head oversees the daily operations of a retail store department. They coordinate staff, organize schedules, ensure product availability, supervise sales, and provide quality customer service.
The incumbent also participates in stock management, inventory tracking, complaint handling, and the resolution of operational issues.
2. Key Responsibilities
 Supervise, coordinate, and support the daily activities of department employees.
 Recruit staff and conduct or organize their training.
 Prepare and manage work schedules.
 Assign tasks and monitor team performance.
 Supervise sales associates, sales clerks, and other department staff.
 Order merchandise required for the department's smooth operation.
 Ensure product availability and shelf restocking.
 Organize and maintain stock and inventory.
 Oversee the receipt, display, and storage of merchandise.
 Drive product sales and support merchandising activities.
 Respond to customer inquiries and resolve complaints professionally.
 Address stock shortages or operational issues.
 Ensure compliance with internal procedures, service standards, and company practices.
 Prepare reports on sales volumes, merchandising, and personnel matters as required.
 Supervise cash-handling activities, depending on the department and location.
 Collaborate with store management and other departments.
3. Requirements and Qualifications
Experience
 2 years of experience in retail sales, supervision, or a related field, depending on the location. Experience in inventory management, customer service, or team coordination is an asset.
Desired Skills
Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
Proficiency in French (spoken and written).
Holding a TEF or TCF certification would be an asset.
Skills in staff supervision and coordination.
Organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
